Some Interesting Reasons For Weight Gain

There are many people who are wondering why they gain weight, although they are having a healthy lifestyle and good physical activity. We are not focusing on the cases, when people overeat or eat fried or fast foods, a lot of sugar, and consume lots of alcohol. In this case, it is no surprise why they gain weight. Lack of physical activity is also harmful, although you may have a healthy eating plan. However, there are other reasons, that lead to weight gain, although you are having a healthy lifestyle, and we are going to focus on these reasons.

Lack of sleep:

It may seem weird, but the lack of sleep is among the most common reasons for weight gain. The principle is actually quite clear when you think over it. When you have had enough sleep, your body is rested, and it is full of energy, for your organism’s daily activities. When you don’t get enough sleep, then your organism experiences an emotional stress. Side factors from this stress are eating more, getting snacks, most of which chocolate, or sweets. Imagine getting a late-night snack at about 2 o’clock in the morning, so that you can fall asleep at last. Your body cannot burn the calories during the night, and sooner or later, they are stored as fat.

Stress and other psychological factors:

When under daily stress people tend to forget about healthy lifestyle and eating plan. They are concentrated more on their emotional condition than on anything else. Of course there are people who barely eat anything when under emotional pressure, but there are also such, who overeat in these periods. Moreover, when under heavy psychological pressure, our bodies go into survival regime, in order to cope with the stress. This includes also slowing down metabolism, and this is a direct relation to weight gain.

Alcohol:

If you are on a diet, but still consume alcohol, you should bear in mind that this spoils all efforts. You may ask why? Is alcohol that caloric? The question here is not in the calories themselves, but in the way alcohol influences your metabolism. Generally when consuming alcohol, it slows down your metabolism and you don’t burn calories. So, if you want to consume alcohol and still lose weight, the only decision here is to do it without eating beforehand, or while drinking. But this is close to impossible. So the only healthy possible decision is decrease the amount of alcohol drastically. A glass of wine once or twice a week seems a good option, but in no means it should be added to every dinner during the week.

Medications:

If you take particular medications, such as antidepressants, medications for high-blood pressure, medications for diabetes, even some oral contraceptives, it is probable that you gain some weight. However this weight gain should not be that much. There still are people who tend to gain up to 10 pounds per month when taking such medications. But if you experience such weight gain, then you should consult a doctor. A change of medications might be a good option, however once perscripted, they should not be stopped because of weight gain, as stopping them may cause more serious health problems.

The above reasons are among the once that are surprising to find out. However there are reasons for weight gain that are well-known and expected, such as pregnancy and quitting smoking. That is why, we have outlined these as separate points.
